MILWAUKEE, WI--(Marketwire - August 2, 2010) - ZBB Energy Corporation (NYSE Amex: ZBB), a leading developer of intelligent, renewable energy power platforms, today announced delivery of four modular ZESS 50 batteries and a ZESS POWR™ PECC (Power & Energy Control Center) system to Powertech Labs as part of that company's Bella Coola Hydrogen Assisted Renewable Power (HARP) project in Bella Coola, British Columbia.
ZBB's ZESS 50 storage systems are being integrated into a power module that uses multiple components, including conventional diesel generators and hydrogen fuel cells, to provide electricity to the Bella Coola region. The system will interface with a smart micro-grid Powertech, a subsidiary of BC Hydro, is developing in a demonstration project that seeks to increase utilization of BC Hydro's Clayton Falls small hydro plant, reduce reliance on diesel generation and cut greenhouse gas emissions in remote communities in British Columbia. The project will be tested over the next few weeks and is expected to be operational by the end of August.
"Delivering these units marks another step in our evolution as a supplier of highly adaptable energy storage systems that meet rigorous customer requirements for durability and performance," said Eric Apfelbach, ZBB Energy's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Our ZESS 50 batteries and ZESS POWR® PECC will help stabilize the system by storing excess power and dispatching it throughout the Bella Coola system when Clayton Falls is unable to do so. This should reduce the use of diesel generators and help Powertech achieve a green power solution in these remote areas."
ZBB Energy received the order last November in a competitive bidding process. Powertech based its decision on a thorough evaluation of ZBB Energy's technology and ability to integrate with conventional generation systems. The HARP project, managed by Powertech, is supported by BC Hydro, GE, Sustainable Development Technology Canada, an arm's-length, not-for-profit corporate created by the Government of Canada, and the Province of British Columbia through the Innovative Clean Energy Fund.
